Gun Reform Legislation & Policy
As a transgender woman, I know all too well, the level of hatred and bigotry toward people like me in this country, requiring the serious decision for self-defense. I am a legal and proud gun owner who purchased my firearm from an authorized dealer right here in Las Vegas, Nevada. (See My Photos Section). I also took the required training and certification course for a Conceal Carry CCW Permit. While the 2nd Amendment guarantees our Right to Bear Arms, it does not imply that there can or will be no regulation. I am Pro 2nd Amendment, yet I am also in support of banning Assault Rifles. Our nation has continually endured Mass Shootings with innocent civilians murdered every year because of these assault weapons. These weapons have no legitimate purpose of self-defense by definition in peace time. They can, however, kill a massive number of civilians in a short amount of time before the shooter can be neutralized. In Las Vegas, Nevada, we have horrible reminders of assault rifles being used against innocent civilians, resulting in mass murder.
Expanding Background Checks to help eliminate guns getting into the wrong hands of dangerous and unstable individuals will help to prevent the possibility of more unjustifiable homicides with guns.
Teaching and requiring knowledge of laws pertaining to legal and responsible gun ownership would have a noticeable and positive impact upon gun owners and our society.
Requiring annual testing of legal knowledge, operational skills, and cleaning and storage of firearms would make a positive difference of future decisions people make before they happen. Far too many murders and instances of involuntary manslaughter happen because too many people lack knowledge and critical thinking skills where gun ownership is concerned. Americans should be able to feel safer knowing there is continuing education and training for gun owners. I don't believe any sensible person would oppose increased knowledge of a weapon they own, and when and how it can be legally used.
These are ideas I support talking about and learning more about as we try to heal from and prevent more trauma from gun violence in America. Vote for Progress in this area, not maintaining the status quo of the NRA and Gun Lobby. Put people above profits for gun manufacturers, spineless and cowardly politicians who only care about staying in power.
