STOP ANTI-LGBTQIA+ HATE LEGISLATION
As an OUT and PROUD member of the LGBTQIA+ Community, I see and feel the hatred on a daily basis, whether I’m reading or watching the news, learning of the increasing ways we are being targeted and dehumanized. We are, in fact, stronger than anyone in the GOP could ever realize or hope to be themselves. The GOP hides their insecurity by wrapping themselves up in culture wars about how people different than them live their lives. We have the courage to be who we are openly in the face of threats of violence, humiliation, and marginalization. We have something they don’t possess, STRENGTH to be true to ourselves.
The battle is growing. Over 510 bills were introduced in state legislatures across the country, most were aimed at the transgender community specifically, but we all feel threat whether we are any part of this community. Over 84 were signed into law in 2023. These efforts eclipse the previous 5-year total.
As of April 16, 2024, there are currently 484 bills circulating through state legislatures against all of us in this community. Some have already become the law in their respective states. It’s on par to be the worst year thus far, in preparation for what they hope will be a Republican administration. If this were to become a reality, it would mean the end of us all, literally.
It’s called PROJECT 2025 and you should dive deep to begin to learn what they have in store for our community, as well as all other Americans. There is no more time to wait for someone to do it without us. We must act now and get involved in any and every way possible to stop their dystopian nightmare from emerging as our new reality.
